Development in the XXI Century is a complex process that relies on different perspectives, strategies and actions, all of them important for its sustainability dimension. Action plans for sustainable development, such as Agenda 21 or the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), adopted at the UN Millennium Summit 2000, can only be successful if all involved stakeholders make efforts to find effective long-term solutions that link environment and natural resources with patterns of production and consumption, social development. In recent years, it has become increasingly clear that sustainable economies must be built around sustainable products, services, and consumption patterns, not just sustainable industrial processes.
Production-oriented strategies can effectively reduce the environmental impacts associated with the design and manufacture of products and the consumption of materials and resources in the production process. Sustainable production and sustainable consumption are complementary strategies for making economies more sustainable. Multidisciplinarity, international cooperation and effective communication of the scientific, technological and managerial achievements in the environmental field are of a great importance for promoting sustainable development. Already at its 5th edition, the ICEEM conference is designed to bring together engineers, scientists and managers, active in the field of Environmental Protection, in the unique landscape of the most famous Danube Delta in Romania. |
